Moonlit Scenes

The sub-zero temperatures in early March led to incredibly clear visibility at night with bright full and 3/4 moons. The first 5×4 of the project was shot across this incredible frozen energy reservoir in the shadow of Ben Lawers. With snow acting as a “battery” the days snow-melt is drained overnight to meet the peak energy demand in the early evening. As the shore appeared the central ice cracked then buckled loudly echoing off the moonlit slopes like thunder.

Mid-march saw central Scotland receive an unexpected drop of over 12 inches of snow. This time shooting into the moon reveals the tailrace of Sloy Dam leading to Loch Lomond. Accelerating through a series of underground tunnels the combination of fall height and volume enables water to turn 4 massive turbines at 20% load throughout the day.
